Joe Russo Explains Why Stan Lee's Cameo on Captain America: Civil War Cameo is Pivotal to Film

Stan Lee's cameos in the MCU are perhaps as anticipated as any other Marvel film, so fans have been wondering how the Russo brothers are planning to feature "The Man" in the forthcoming Captain America: Civil War, especially since it is the biggest film in the MCU to date.

Apparently, Stan's cameo will be as major as Civil War, and rightfully so. Civil War wouldn't be existing now without him.

In an interview with Australian radio music station Nova 96.9, director Joe Russo explained the comic book writer's cameo as well as the difficulties they encountered in keeping the appearance different.

You're always looking to keep it different with him and you want to surprise the audience because they get a kick out of it, but you also want to make it relevant in some way, so he delivers a key piece of information in the movie.

Exactly how this "key piece of information" will fit into Civil War can be anybody's guess, but from the looks of it, Stan Lee's upcoming cameo won't be the usual one minute appearance that some people quickly forget.

The move makes sense, considering Stan has appeared in 12 Marvel films already. Then again, the MCU isn't the only franchise he's appeared in. He was also in the previous Spider-Man films and Deadpool.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
