Joaquin Phoenix's Joker Is 'Daring, Weird and Dark', Says Former Batman Writer

Fans probably still don't know what to think about Joaquin Phoenix's clown makeup in Todd Phillips' latest Instagram post but Scott Snyder already has some ideas on what we could look forward to. The former Batman comics writer has declared that the new Joker will be "daring, weird and dark."

Snyder, who wrote for Batman back in 2011, has offered his opinion about Phoenix's take on the Clown Prince of Crime. The writer admitted that he is "genuinely crazy excited for" the new film. Check out his tweet below.

I guess that sums up what most of us truly feel about Phillips' strange video. We're still not sure about what's going to happen in the new Joker movie but we are all truly looking forward to what Phoenix will do for the character.

Fans were initially underwhelmed when Phillips posted an image of Phoenix as a character named Arthur. This certainly led to confusion about the character and the actor's seemingly normal look. Some even thought the Gladiator star looked more like Javier Bardem's character in No Country for Old Men.

Nevertheless, the video with the garish clown makeup was certainly a welcome surprise. It strongly suggests that although "Arthur" looks like a mild-mannered man, he is holding back the makings of a terrifying psychopath. Even the way Phoenix raises his eyebrow before putting on a serious look is mesmerizing and scary. We certainly can't wait to see him in action soon.

The still-untitled Joker film is currently in production. This means we can expect to see more updates from Phillips as filming progresses. Hopefully, we'll see Phoenix take on a more outlandish costume in the future.

The movie will also feature Deadpool 2 actress Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond. Brett Cullen, who previously played a congressman in The Dark Knight Rises, will portray Batman's father Thomas Wayne in the film.
