Suicide Squad was one of the odder DCEU movies, managing to gain a following even though the movie was of lesser quality. It had a number of good ideas that were executed poorly but the one weird thing it did was try to make The Joker sexy. This might be because Jared Leto is considered a sexy man but it was odd seeing him shirtless and wooing Margot Robbie's, Harley Quinn.
Joaquin Phoenix is now set to play the character in TheJoker, which will be unconnected to the previous DC movies. While they probably won't play up Phoenix's sexiness, this film being more of a crime drama or gangster flick, the actor has lost a significant amount of weight for the role.
We could be looking too into this and he just wants to be healthy but there's no doubt that the man has lost some weight. Phoenix is conventionally attractive enough to get people who like him to watch the movie but we doubt him losing weight was done to make Joker a sex symbol.
Then again, having attractive people in a movie has proven to be a formula for success. Look at pretty much every Hollywood film ever made.
The Joker will hit cinemas on October 4, 2019.
