Star Wars: Episode IX Cast And Crew Respond To The Start Of Production

Star Wars: Episode IX just started production today and director J.J. Abrams has decided to celebrate by showing off his work behind the screen.

Taking to Twitter, Abrams decided to confirm the start of production of The Last Jedi sequel, telling fans that it was going to be a bittersweet moment starting this new chapter of the Star Wars saga with the legendary Carrie Fisher.

There was a lot of excitement when Lucasfilm released its cast list for Episode IX last week. Fans learned that Lucasfilm was bringing Leia back in the third and final sequel installment, the studio explaining that they were going to use extra footage of the late Carrie Fisher that was shot during The Last Jedi. Sure Fisher might not be around for the actual shoot, but Abrams and his team are going to soldier on to give fans the film that they need.

Abrams and his team seem to be more than ready to work on the film. C3-PO's Anthony Daniels gets a welcome dinner with the cast and crew to celebrate the start of production.

Joonas Suotamo, the actor who plays Chewbacca in the new Star Wars films checked in by sharing the director's tweet, while John Boyega, the sequel trilogy's stormtrooper-turned-resistance fighter decided to celebrate the first day of production by reposting the same photo Abrams used in his tweet.

It's interesting to note that in front of the camera lens is what might be a blurry outline of Boyega's Finn wearing a vest, standing up behind what seems to be another person aboard the Millennium Falcon.

It's definitely exciting seeing Episode IX begin filming, and we can't wait to see more news about the film's production make its way online.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 20, 2019.
