Following the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Disney is trying to strike box office gold with another adaptation of one of their rides, Jungle Cruise. The movie is set to have Dwayne Johnson star, and news has it that they've added a new villain to the cast.
According to Variety, the film has cast Jesse Plemons to play a villain alongside Edgar Ramirez. To those people who don't know who Plemons is, he's most recognizable as one of the most despicable TV villains of all time—Todd from Breaking Bad. You can also see him playing just as vile a character in Black Mirror's USS Callister episode.
Asides from Johnson and Ramirez, Plemons will be joining a cast which also includes the likes of Emily Blunt who will be playing the female lead as well as Jack Whitehall who is playing Blunt's brother.
Though Pirates of the Caribbean came out as a surprise hit for Disney, the ‘making a movie based on a ride' move doesn't always come out great. Just take a look at 2003's The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy and Terrence Stamp. Funny that movie came out the same year as the first Pirates movie did.
No official release date has been set for Jungle Cruise, but hopefully we get an official announcement sometime later this year.
