Wednesday Star Jenna Ortega In Talks to Join Beetlejuice 2

For decades, there have been attempts to do a sequel to the hit 1988 Tim Burton film Beetlejuice. There are conflicting reports in the past couple of years regarding whether the sequel has actually moved forward or not although we still have not even heard an official update from the studio itself.

Now, it looks like the sequel might be happening for real this time around thanks to an exciting new update. Reporter Jeff Sneider first reported in The Hot Mic podcast that Jenna Ortega is currently in talks to join Beetlejuice 2 to play the role of the daughter of Lydia Deetz. The Hollywood Reporter eventually confirmed the news just hours after.

Burton is returning to direct the film. Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, and Winona Ryder are also expected to reprise their respective roles from the original. Production may begin this late May or early June in London although the budget has not been set yet.

If Ortega ends up joining the film, it will mark her second collaboration with Burton since they worked together in the hit Netflix series Wednesday, which the actress stars in and recently renewed for a second season while Burton directed four episodes and serves as executive producer.

This is certainly exciting news since this is a sign that Beetlejuice 2 is definitively going to happen and it's no longer stuck in development hell. Given that we're in an era where the audience is nostalgic about the past and legacy sequels are a huge trend, it's also not surprising that Warner Bros. is finally moving forward with it.

There is also no doubt that Ortega's career is on a huge rise thanks to Wednesday and the new Scream films. Her involvement in Beetlejuice 2 will certainly put her in bigger stardom. The role is also very ideal for her and this could be a passing the baton moment from Ryder.

For now, let's just wait and see whether Ortega does end up signing on for the project and, most especially if the sequel does move forward to the filming stage in its target date.
