A live-action series about the Addams Family is about to arrive on Netflix with Wednesday directed by Tim Burton. It seems they have found the girl to lead the series as their Wednesday Addams and it is none other than Jenna Ortega.
Netflix eagerly announced the casting of Jenna Ortega through a post in their official Twitter page with the caption, "Happy Wednesday! @JennaOrtega will play the iconic Wednesday Addams in our upcoming live-action Wednesday series, directed by Tim Burton." The post comes with a selfie photo of Ortega holding a copy of the script of Wednesday.
Wednesday will be a coming-of-age comedy with some supernatural mystery going on following Wednesday Addams while attending as a student at Nevermore Academy. She learns to hone and harness her psychic abilities preventing a monstrous killing spree that has been wreaking havoc in their town. She will not only be facing this as she would try to solve the mystery involving her parents some 25 years prior, all while having the complicated life of a teenager full of twisted relationships.
The series will be the first-ever TV direction of Tim Burton and it will be penned by the creators of Smallville, Al Gough, and Miles Millar. Burton is also the executive producer of the show and Millar and Gough are the showrunners as well. They would be joined by Kayla Apert who will also be an executive producer for Wednesday.
Jenna Ortega is known for her roles in Jane the Virgin as the younger Jane, Netlfix's You as Ellie Alves, and most recently, in Yes Day as Katie Torres. She also has a role in the upcoming film, Scream. Jenna shared the news in her Instagram account with the caption, "new chapter. Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice *snaps twice*" along with her photo holding the script and the poster of the series.
Wednesday does not have an official release date yet as it is still in pre-production.
