Jay Oliva Says Ben Affleck's Original Script for The Batman was the ‘Best Batman Script I’ve Ever Read’

Matt Reeves is currently set to direct The Batman for the DCEU, but before he came onboard, it was Ben Affleck himself who was going to direct and star in the movie. Some people think that Affleck stepped down because he couldn't get the story right for the movie, but The Dark Knight Returns director Jay Oliva confirms that there was a finished script for the film.

In a fan discussion online about Affleck directing Batman, Oliva came to the defense of Affleck after a Bill Ramey claimed that Affleck ‘never had a story' for his Batman film. Olive replied with:

Of course, we'll never know what that story is in full, but seeing that there was test footage of Deathstroke that came out online, it's possible that he was the main antagonist of Affleck's Batman script.

Even if Oliva thought that the script was good though, it seemed not to be good enough for Affleck, as he had stepped down from the role of director; and even now, there's still ambiguity as to his involvement with Reeves' Batman film.

Rumor has it that Reeves wants to make a ‘day in the life' type movie with a younger Batman, but until something official is announced, we'll just have to keep guessing.

No release date has been set for Matt Reeves' The Batman.
