Jason Momoa Seemingly Confirmed To Get Recast In New DCU Role

Last year, DCU fans were led into a frenzy once a rumor indicated that Jason Momoa was getting recast from his initial DCU role as Aquaman.

Momoa has since then been very open when it came to promoting how much he would love to play a different DCU role, specifically an anti-hero this time.

The 43-year-old actor has made his intentions loud and clear when he teased he would soon be getting his dream DCU role and that is to become the franchise’s Lobo.

A previous report claimed that while Momoa is on the lookout to play Lobo, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom played its role in this decision.

Apparently, the negative screening test results on the Aquaman sequel also led the actor to rethink his DC future as the Atlantean king.

While DC Studios has yet to confirm nor deny Momoa getting a redo in the DCU, Peter Safran recently hinted at getting to work with the actor ‘for many years to come’, seemingly confirming he will get the recast he wants.

“I look forward to working with Jason [Momoa] for many years to come.” Safran said in a recent interview with Men’s Health.

Safran added, “I would be happy for it to be in Arthur Curry’s world, but if/when another opportunity came up, I’d find another great character for him to create.”

It is worth mentioning that Safran previously discussed Momoa’s DC future, hinting at the Aquaman actor indeed getting recast in his dream role within the franchise.

“Jason always thought Aquaman was a trilogy in his own mind. But he also loves Lobo.” Safran shared.

“He’s been very clear about that, too. He’s never gonna play two characters, but no decision has been made.”

Considering that James Gunn and Safran are trying to rebuild the DCU from the ground up, perhaps recasting Momoa in a different role would do wonders for the billion-dollar franchise.

For now though, Jason Momoa is still Aquaman, who we will be seeing soon on the big screens once again.

DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently slated to premiere on December 20, 2023. You can check out more details about the sequel here.
