James Wan Disses Academy For Aquaman VFX Team Oscar Snub

There is little doubt that one of the reasons why Aquaman is doing so well in the box office is because of its exciting visual effects. Unfortunately, the DC Extended Universe flick has been snubbed for this particular category in the upcoming Academy Awards. Not surprisingly, director James Wan isn't happy that his film has not been nominated and he's making it clear on social media.

Wan had previously celebrated the release of Aquaman on his official Facebook page and fans couldn't stop from congratulating the filmmaker for a job well done. One of the comments on Wan's post came from Kelvin McIlwain, who served as visual effects supervisor on the DCEU movie. "Congrats James, It was such an honor to be a part of this creative endeavor and to work with you again. Cheers!!!!" McIlwain wrote.

The VFX supervisor's comment was certainly pleasant. However, Wan's response made his disdain for the Academy very clear.

"Kelvin, you and your department are the unsung heroes of this film. The fact that your VFX peers in the Academy aren't recognizing or appreciating what we/you've all contributed to the film and cinema is a f--king disgrace," Wan wrote.

McIlwain is known for his work on the Fast and Furious movies and he has previously worked with Wan on Furious 7. It's understandable that the Conjuring director is disappointed that McIlwain and his team were not nominated. Nevertheless, there is still hope that the VFX team will get a nod from other award-giving bodies.

Aquaman is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
