James McAvoy recently addressed the recasting of the role of Professor X for the character's introduction in the MCU.
Fans have been looking forward to hearing which actors Marvel Studios will hire to play the iconic mutants in the MCU. The highly-anticipated X-Men reboot movie is currently in early development.
Considering that Hugh Jackman was brought back to play Wolverine again, some are wondering whether there are other actors from the Fox era that Marvel will also tap to reprise their roles in the MCU.
James McAvoy Casts Doubt on Playing Professor X Again in the MCU
In a recent interview, McAvoy was asked whether he will be reprising his role of Professor X in the MCU and Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia reboot.
He believed that he wouldn't likely play his iconic X-Men character again and Marvel Studios would be recasting the role for the MCU version.
"That's very kind. Although, I suspect, with both, we will be seeing someone else play those roles," he responded.
While some fans would love to see more of McAvoy's Professor X, they should lower their expectations of him reprising the role unless Marvel brings him back and his X-Men co-stars for a potential major multiversal team-up in Secret Wars.
We also know that the MCU reboot will introduce new versions of the iconic mutant characters and they are not interested in bringing back the Fox actors for their own take (except for Jackman).
Nevertheless, whoever Marvel casts for the role, they have big shoes to fill as both McAvoy and Patrick Stewart's portrayals of the character are beloved by many fans and consider them as their definitive versions on screen.
For now, we should wait for any news and updates regarding the MCU reboot of X-Men and, hopefully, we'll get official details from Marvel soon.
