James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad Spinoff Casts A Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Alumni Actress

DC's The Suicide Squad recently confirmed a spin-off for John Cena's character, Christopher Smith, also known as the Peacemaker. The series will be on HBO Max and will be helmed by James Gunn. With the confirmation of the series and the filming of the pilot episode, Gunn added two cast members to the series roster.

One of the two cast additions is an alumnus from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Rizwan Manji and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow will be joining The Suicide Squad spinoff series. Manji will play the role of Jamil while Ludlow will play the role of Keeya.

Ludlow previously worked with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and she starred as an Easik woman. Gunn revealed that he did not immediately recognize Ludlow when she was auditioning for Peacemaker, since he has always seen her with her alien makeup on.

Aside from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ludlow also starred in The Walking Dead as Arat. Meanwhile, Manji also starred in other TV series such as The Magicians, Mr. Robot, Schitt's Creek, and NBC's Perfect Harmony.

Gunn confirmed in January that the filming of Peacemaker has officially started. The director said that while in quarantine, he was between cutting The Suicide Squad and working on Guardians drafts when he started writing a TV series.

Gunn wrote the first season of Peacemaker in just eight weeks. Fast forward to January 2021, he has now started the filming of the pilot episode of the series, as well as other several episodes of the series.

Peacemaker is an eight-episode series but has yet to confirm a release date on HBO Max.
