James Gunn Seemingly Confirms Krypto the Superdog's DCU Debut

James Gunn is currently gearing up for the first DCU film Superman: Legacy as he recently turned over the script just before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike commenced. So far, the plot details remain under wraps on his new take at the Man of Steel in the rebooted DC franchise.

We know that some of the usual characters from the Superman lore will show up in the film such as Clark Kent/Superman (obviously), Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. Casting is reportedly already underway for the project.

Now, it looks like the Man of Steel will have a canine companion in his DCU solo movie as James Gunn seemingly suggested in a recent interview with Toronto Sun that Krypto the Superdog will be part of Superman: Legacy.

While discussing how they said goodbye in the recent MCU film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn joked that Chris Pratt could jump to the DCU and play the role of Krypto the Superdog in Superman: Legacy.

"I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog [in Superman: Legacy]. You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can’t talk," he said.

Pratt responded with a joke, "I’ll do Krypto but you have to pay me in crypto."

"I’ll pay you in crypto, which amounts to zero dollars," Gunn answered back with a laugh.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star took note of the fact that they broke the news during the interview regarding Krypto the Superdog's inclusion in Superman: Legacy.

"It sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news," Pratt declared.

"It is a scoop, I guess," Gunn added.

Pratt joked again, "Way to go. You’re fired. Back to Marvel."

There is a chance that Gunn might just be joking about Krypto's inclusion in his DCU movie although it is not out of the realm of possibility that the canine will be part of it since he is adjacent to the Superman lore of the DC mythology.

Cosmo's inclusion in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has also proved that Gunn is willing to include a canine character in the story and have it as part of the action.

Let's wait and see first whether Gunn will officially confirm the character's appearance in the film or if it was just simply a joke in the interview.
