We all have questions about the upcoming Peacemaker series. For instance, what kind of music can we expect in the Suicide Squad spin-off series? Luckily, James Gunn has the answer and it's a surprising one: The show will have a soundtrack filled with 80s hair metal classics.
It's no secret that music is essential in Gunn's projects. This has already been proven in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and most recently in The Suicide Squad. Not surprisingly, we can expect that again in Peacemaker, which will have its own distinct style.
Gunn recently took part in the Television Critics Association summer press tour where he shared some new details about Peacemaker. The interesting thing that he confirmed was that the soundtrack is going to be a lot louder than his previous projects.
"It really is all hair metal. A lot of 80s hair metal, but it's also a lot of modern sleaze rock and hair metal that comes out of Europe — a lot of really great bands that people don't know about," Gunn said. He then admitted that some music might not be as great as we remember so looking for the right songs was a challenge.
"I love that stuff but there's also a lot of really bad hair metal. So it was fun finding the really good stuff to inject the series with flavor, which we keep throughout the whole first season," Gunn said.
At this point, we're beginning to wonder if Warrant's Cherry Pie is part of the soundtrack. However, there's a good chance that Peacemaker will be all about obscure but awesome songs that will give the series a unique dimension.
Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji. The series has not yet been given an official release date but is set to premiere on HBO Max in January 2022.
