For years, his name is always mentioned by Star-Lord for his role in Footloose and finally, Kevin Bacon makes his very own MCU debut in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special as himself. James Gunn reveals why the actor is perfect in the Marvel Special Presentation.
Since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, Star-Lord keeps mentioning that his hero growing up is Kevin Bacon's Ren McCormack who saved the town through dancing, and Star-Lord did the same as he saved the universe through a dance-off going against Ronan the Accuser.
Now, Kevin Bacon finally makes his very own Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special as himself, and he actually plays a huge part of it because it turns out Mantis and Drax wants to take him as their gift to Peter Quill who looked up to Kevin Bacon as his childhood hero.
In an interview with Variety, the director of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, James Gunn, reveals why Kevin Bacon is perfect for Marvel's Special Presentation and how the actor fits into the narrative so well.
Gunn said, "The best thing for the holiday special is Kevin Bacon, and if that means that Kevin Bacon is a different character later on in the MCU, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not real. None of this is real. He was the perfect person to cast as Kevin Bacon. If we had cast John Schneider as Kevin Bacon, it wouldn’t have worked as well."
Of course, who else could play Kevin Bacon the best other than himself, right? James Gunn added, “There was an action sequence at the end where Kevin Bacon jumped around and was performing action stunts. What interested me was the interaction between the characters. So I just cut that out and made it a story about people.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special follows the titular team as they get into a whole Christmas mayhem where Mantis and Drax go to Earth to get Kevin Bacon as their present for Peter Quill who has been sad since the loss of Gamora. Also, it reveals that Mantis is actually Star-Lord's sister through Ego.

Also in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are Rocket, Groot, Cosmo the Spacedog, Kraglin, and Nebula. There is also a special cameo appearance from Mark Hamill.
