James Gunn Reveals How in the World Groot Found a Toe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 might have turned Marvel fans into a sniveling mess when it killed off Yondu (Michael Rooker) just after Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) begins to learn the true meaning of fatherhood, but the emotionally-charged movie also had a whole lot of levity to it.

In one of the laugh-out-loud scenes in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, fans get to see Yondu instructing Baby Groot to get his Yaka Arrow Controller. Unfortunately for the imprisoned Ravager leader, Groot is pretty slow to learn, and the youngest Guardian ends up dragging along strange items, including a broken toe.

Addressing fans after ComicBook.com's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Watch Party, Marvel director James Gunn reveals just how Groot came across the toe in the first place.

"I think he tore it off some helpless guy while he was sleeping," the filmmaker joked in response to a fan's question during the watch party.

While the idea of Baby Groot tearing off a foot seems a little bit incredulous, we wouldn't be surprised if Gunn said that it was entirely part of his story for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

After all, Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot's partner and father-figure, does have the habit of taking out mechanical legs just for the fun of it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 certainly had a lot of hijinks. We can't help but expect the same kind of fun in the next Guardians movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
