The Hollywood Reporter dropped a major bombshell yesterday, reporting that David Corenswet is among the frontrunners to play the Man of Steel, along with Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson.

Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor, and Samara Weaving are all rumored to be vying for the Lois Lane part, while Nicholas Hoult is also said to be in contention for the role of Lex Luthor.

However, a new report seems to dismiss the X-Men star's potential villain role in the anticipated project. According to Deadline's Justin Kroll, Gunn was toying with the idea of actually casting a Guardians of the Galaxy actor for the role of Lex Luthor and there were even serious discussions about it during GOTG 3's press tour.

However, the idea seems to be off the table now and the identity of the actor was not disclosed. It's worth mentioning though that Kroll said the director was speaking specifically to "one of his Guardians" so it's safe to assume that it could either be Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, or Dave Bautista.

As it stands, Gunn has yet to address the report but out of all the GOTG actors, it seems like Bautista would fit the role to a tee. The Drax actor previously expressed his desire to play Bane but has since given up on the prospect because he believes he's too old for the part.

DC Studios' Superman: Legacy is currently eyeing a July 11, 2025 release date. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is screening in theaters worldwide.
