I think we can all agree that James Gunn has proven himself to be a fantastic director and a valuable asset to both Marvel and DC. Now that he's reached unprecedented success in the comic book genre, a lot of fans have been wondering if there's any chance he could jump ship to the Star Wars franchise. Considering he's found a great deal of success with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise which is essentially a more vibrant and goofier version of Star Wars, it would be safe to assume that he'd have cruise control over the said universe given the opportunity.

This may come as a surprise to a lot of people but it turns out that the concept doesn't appeal to Gunn, and when he was asked by a fan on Twitter to take on a Star Wars trilogy, the Peacemaker director rejected the idea and said: "I’m finishing a Guardians trilogy. That’s enough space opera for me at this moment." Check out his response below:

When you think about it, Gunn does raise a pretty valid argument. And honestly speaking, as great of a director as he is, I don't think his trademark style and humor would be a good fit for the Star Wars franchise which is oftentimes presented in a more serious manner. But who knows, right? Maybe in the right place and right time. For now, let's just enjoy his comic book film offerings while we can.

That said, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently slated for release on May 5, 2023.
