James Gunn Regrets Not Giving Dave Bautista’s Drax This Comic Feature

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is like a gift to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially now that Vol. 3 is out, aka the best of the trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sees the cast members in a different glow by providing them with the spotlight that they deserve, just like Rocket Raccoon gets the proper backstory arc in this installment.

Despite the epic and perfect conclusion that Gunn gave the Guardians, some fans still tend to notice some comic features that the filmmaker could have showcased in his trilogy.

User @thelaurakremer took to Twitter to point out how sad they are for not having the chance to witness Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer playing the saxophone, which was a key element in the comics.

“@JamesGunn I loved the trilogy but I’m sad we never got Super Sax Drax? I feel like @DaveBautista could have really given us some great Kenny G vibes!” they wrote.

Since Gunn is not just one to debunk rumors and misinformation, he replied to the fan by echoing and sympathizing with their lamentation.

“I know. @DaveBautista has been taking sax lessons for ten years all to no avail. Maybe he can star in the Stan Getz biopic. Sorry, Dave!” said Gunn.

Drax is not just one of the strongest members of the Guardians; in the comics, he also often entertains the rest of the team with his musical skills by playing the saxophone.

Drax's saxophone skills have been featured in print, specifically in the 2018 Marvel comic storyline "Infinity Countdown," as the Guardians must obtain the Power Stone.

As the team fights in style, Star-Lord requests Drax give their opponents one banger on the sax, leading them to obtain the stone.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the last time fans will see the Guardians together, specifically Bautista’s Drax after the actor repeatedly said last year that he’s done with the character for good.

However, even if Bautista is done with Drax or the MCU, he did say that he’s willing to work with Gunn again, especially now that he serves as the co-CEO of DC Studios.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in cinemas.
