Guardians of the Galaxy Veteran Reveals He's Not Been Approached to Play DCU's Lex Luthor

The past weekend has been filled with rumors about the casting for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Many names have been thrown into the ring for who will play the next Man of Steel and Lex Luthor.

One of the names that have been mentioned in the rumors about who will play the next villain, Lex Luthor, is Guardians of the Galaxy alum Dave Bautista.

The actor revealed last year that he’s done playing Drax the Destroyer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which leaves room for him to assume new roles.

Gunn previously said that he had a conversation with the Guardians of the Galaxy members about joining the DC Universe now that he’s acting co-CEO of the company.

Given that Bautista openly communicated that he’s willing to work with the filmmaker again, fans are wondering if it’s true that he will be the supervillain.

Now, the Knock of the Cabin star revealed that Gunn hasn’t spoken to him about the role, and it’s just fair that he said it now so that fans will not be disappointed.

Bautista replied in a video posted by ComicBook on Instagram that it wasn't him who the DC boss chatted with regarding the job. “Nope! No conversation. No, hurting people.” he said.

Aside from Bautista, another Guardians of the Galaxy veteran has been thrown into the mix regarding portraying Lex Luthor, and it's none other than Bradley Cooper.

Unlike the Army of the Dead actor, Cooper has yet to address the rumor, but Gunn has previously debunked the hearsay that big roles have been cast for Superman: Legacy.

The Peacemaker creator said in a past interview that his Superman adaptation will focus on the hero’s emotional side, as he intends for his film to touch the viewers’ hearts.

Superman: Legacy follows Superman in his journey to reconcile his Kryptonian ancestry with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

The upcoming DC film aims to show Superman as the personification of truth, justice, and human kindness in a world that regards kindness as antiquated.

Superman: Legacy arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
