James Gunn Reacts to Fans' Riot Threats if Rocket Dies in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

We are all hoping for the best in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but we're also a bit wary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. After all, we've all been hurt in the previous two movies and there is a good chance that there's another major casualty coming in 2023. Moreover, it might be Rocket Raccoon who has undergone great character development in the franchise.

Not surprisingly, fans are not happy about Rocket possibly biting the dust in the third Guardians movie and are now threatening to riot. However, James Gunn has a cool response to the threats.

Gunn is currently promoting his new series Peacemaker ahead of DC FanDome but he's also addressing fan questions about his other projects. When someone tweeted a call for fans to riot when Rocket dies in Vol. 3, the Suicide Squad director retweeted it with an awesome response.

"I'm not saying anything about anything so don't take this as insinuating anything about what's going to happen in #Vol3 BUT I was threatened with, easily, 300 riots before #TheSuicideSquad was released & almost every character was killed & so far I've received exactly zero riots," Gunn wrote.

He does have a point there but the big difference is, the Suicide Squad teasers made a big deal out of all the deaths in the film. In contrast, the Guardians movies usually just choose one character whose death will truly tug at fans' heartstrings.

We're still hoping that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will not have any major casualties but it's probably best not to get your hopes up. Let's just hope it will all be worth it for the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has not yet been given an official production start date but is expected to begin filming by early next year. The sequel is then scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
