James Gunn Promises Character Death in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The Guardians lost quite a number of friends in Avengers: Infinity War and in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Now, it looks like Marvel's favorite group of space misfits are going to take another major hit in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Taking to Instagram to answer questions about his upcoming movies for Marvel and for DC, director James Gunn addressed the possibility of character death in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Posting on his Instagram stories (via ComicBook.com), Gunn told his followers that he was "Taking questions. Watcha got? Ask here."

The director's response was pretty candid. When asked by a fan whether someone might die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn didn't shy away, giving a simple "yes" on social media.

While this character death might be meant for background aliens or for a side character, Gunn could also mean that GOTG 3 would be taking the life of one of our favorite cosmic screw-ups. No one is safe among the Guardians, not after the death of Yondu (Michael Rooker) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the death of Gamorra (Zoe Saldana) in Avengers: Infinity War.

We'll just have to wait and see whether death will come for the space misfits.

It may be a long wait. Sure, the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie may have a 2022 release, however, Marvel might have to recalibrate its release schedule for its upcoming films another time if the COVID-19 pandemic doesn't ease up by summer. We can only hope for the best.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans once we get word.
