Peacemaker was a relative unknown in the comics before James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and now after a movie and a spinoff series, John Cena’s antihero is one of the most popular DC characters out now.

Gunn has worked on a second season of the show while juggling the production of Superman, and while everyone is anticipating Gunn’s Man of Steel, he gives an update on when fans can expect the next season of Peacemaker to drop.

Peacemaker Season 2 Comes Out After Superman

With Superman set to come out in July of next year, Gunn has confirmed that Peacemaker 2 will be released in 2025 as well, but after the Man of Steel takes flight. When asked by a fan when the release date would be on Threads (via ComicBookMovie), Gunn confirmed simply, “2025 after Superman.”

So far, now new details have been revealed for the next season of Peacemaker, but Gunn himself has confirmed that the show will provide more varieties of his helmet and even teased a new one on his IG:

What Happened in Peacemaker Season 1?

Peacemaker (a.k.a. Christopher Smith) had been dubbed as a ‘f*cked up version of Captain America’ when he was first introduced in The Suicide Squad, and the first season of his show had really leaned in on that; with Peacemaker still hell bent on his quest for peace, but only armed with a morality of a 12-year-old that grew up in the 80s.

A huge arc for Chris Smith also had to do with him tackling his upbringing from his racist father Auggie Smith a.k.a. the White Dragon who was affiliated with the white supremacist group the Aryan Empire. Chris also had to deal with the fact that he had caused the death of his own brother after the two were forced to fight for the Aryan’s entertainment.

By the end of the season though, Chris seemingly gets over his father issues and makes peace with the squad that Amanda Waller had set him up with. Sure some of them may have died along the way, but it has been teased that Peacemaker’s relationships with Economos (Steve Agee), Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), and Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) will continue to grow; and he’ll probably keep Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) at arm’s distance.

There’s also the case of the body-snatching aliens dubbed “butterflies”. Though Chris may have destroyed their “Cow” food source, he still managed to salvage the butterfly that possessed Sophie Song and is even able to feed it; teasing that the butterflies could be a presence in the next season.

Peacemaker in the DC Canon

With James Gunn establishing a new DC canon, it’s very curious where Peacemaker is going to fit in all of this. Gunn has confirmed that the first season of the series won’t be a part of the new DC continuity, so that may mean that Season 2 has a lot of heavy lifting to do when it comes to establishing exactly what timeline it’s in.

If anyone were to guess, it’s possible those questions could be answered by the end of Superman

Expect the second season of Peacemaker to come out sometime after July 2025.
