James Gunn has announced the writers who will shepherd the Lanterns TV series for the new DCU franchise.

Last year, it was revealed that DC Studios is working on a new Green Lantern series that will center on Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating a mystery on Earth. It is described as a True Detective-style project.

Since then, there hasn't been any significant update on the project, as it continues to be in development until today as DC Studios has tapped the writers who will bring the iconic heroes to the DCU fold.

Lanterns DCU Series Sets Its Writers

In his recent post on Instagram, Gunn announced that Damon Lindelof (Lost and Watchmen), Chris Mundy (Ozark), and Tom King (The Vision) will serve as the writers for Lanterns.

The trio penned the pilot script and came up with the series bible that will serve as the project's story guide.

"Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof," Gunn wrote in his caption.

"A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception)."

This is the first major update for Lanterns since the project's announcement last year, and it is a sign that development is now steadily underway since they have set the head writers.

It is impressive that they've assembled an all-star writing team for the project, especially with Lindelof's involvement since he is a highly experienced genre writer who previously worked on HBO's Watchmen, which is another DC property.

Fans should look forward to more updates in the coming months, as the project's development is still ongoing. However, it is exciting that Lanterns is off to a good start with the creative team that DC Studios recruited.
