Most fans are probably not aware of this interesting Marvel Cinematic Universe fact but James Gunn actually had a small role in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed Avengers: Infinity War. The 2018 film saw the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy interacted with some of the members of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes and of course, it was home to the now-iconic joke from a beloved Guardian.

We're talking about Drax the Destroyer's (Dave Bautista) invisible joke which he cracked during an intimate scene between Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). The joke has since been associated with the character and Gunn has had a hard time escaping its shadow.

Unsurprisingly, the number of times the joke has been delivered has taken a huge toll on him, so much so that the MCU and DCEU director regrets writing the line in the first place.

Reposting a tweet from a fan who wants to see him "pay forward" an Invisible Drax moment potentially in his final Guardians film, Gunn responded by saying that he almost regrets coming up with that line which ended up becoming a massive running joke in and out of the MCU.

He wrote: "Between the daily barrage of repetitive invisible jokes about John Cena in addition the the ones about Dave, I almost regret making the joke in the first place."

Meanwhile, James Gunn is gearing up for his MCU exit next year and while we can all expect GOTG Vol. 3 to be a thrilling ride, I do hope it finally gives Drax his defining MCU moment that would see him as more than a comic relief.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for theatrical release on May 5, 2023.
