James Gunn Has Disagreements with Avengers: Infinity War's Handling of the Guardians

The Guardians of the Galaxy has been a constant presence in the MCU for the past several years. Aside from starring in their own films, they have also assisted the Avengers during the battle against Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame.

Now, the end of the road is upon them as the soon-to-release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be the team's final movie in its current iteration in addition to being director James Gunn's final involvement in the MCU as he is now heading DC Studios.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn opened up about his disagreements over the team's portrayal in Avengers: Infinity War as he saw disconnects with certain storylines involving the characters that he launched in the MCU.

"They did some things that I wouldn’t have wanted," the director said.

Particularly, Gunn thought that Star-Lord would have killed Gamora if she asked him to and it wouldn't have led the character to not punch Thanos and doom the universe.

Between the release of Infinity War and Endgame, a lot of fans online were blaming Star-Lord as the reason why Thanos was able to succeed in his plan and it is still an ongoing debate even today when the MCU has already moved past the Infinity Saga.

As the director and writer who launched the characters into the franchise, it is understandable why Gunn has some issues regarding the way Infinity War handled their storylines and he shared some salient points on his disagreements over it.

Nevertheless, the team's arc in the two Avengers films was able to work out in the end as they became the key players in defeating Thanos in the final battle and they also set up an interesting path for them after the events of the films.

Now, all eyes are on their final adventure in the upcoming third film which will explore Rocket Raccoon's backstory and is also set out to be their last mission together.
