Henry Cavill's DC Universe exit stunned the entire comic book film fandom last year. Just when it looked like the British star will finally be given a fair shot at playing Superman on the big screen, DC Studios co-head James Gunn announced that he'll no longer be donning the iconic red cape in the "new" DCU.

Over the last couple of weeks, speculation has been running high within the fandom after Gunn confirmed that he's writing the Man of Steel's first adventure in the soon-to-be revamped DCU. Names such as Jacob Elordi and David Corenswet immediately emerged as top candidates amongst fans but it looks like none of these fan-castings will happen after all.

Taking to Twitter to repost a fan-made image of Elordi as the Man of Steel, Gunn wasted no time putting the potential casting to rest and according to him, it will take a while before we get news about Cavill's official replacement.

Gunn wrote: "My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet. Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them."

Gunn's latest remarks seem to cast doubt on Superman being one of the characters featured during the new DCU's first chapter and it almost sounds sacrilegious, especially considering the character is the franchise's flagship hero. Hopefully, Gunn and Safran will finally break the news in the coming days because honestly, we're all growing impatient.

Meanwhile, in other DCU news, the franchise's next film Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
