James Gunn Explains Why The Guardians Never Met Captain Marvel Before Avengers: Endgame

Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) might have decided to continue her cosmic journey after accompanying the Skrulls in their journey home after the events of Captain Marvel, but that doesn't mean that the photon-blasting superhero had previous knowledge of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn just recently went on Instagram to address questions about the movies that he's been directing or has directed and during the question and answer segment, a fan decided to ask the director why Captain Marvel never really got to meet the Guardians before Avengers: Endgame.

According to Gunn, the universe was just way too large for Captain Marvel and the Guardians to come across each other.

"There are sextillions of sentient beings in the universe. It would be unlikely they had met," the director answered on his Instagram story (via ComicBook.com).

Gunn does make a point. Captain Marvel patrolling the cosmos doesn't necessarily mean that she'll run into the Guardians. Not everyone knows everyone in a city. Imagine the distance and space between the entire galaxies. Captain Marvel can share a galaxy with the Guardians and still, there'd be a possibility that the comic book heroes wouldn't ever get to meet each other.

Right now Gunn is busy working on The Suicide Squad, a reboot sequel to the Suicide Squad movie by David Ayer. After that, the director is expected to begin work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a film fans expect to appear in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.
