For the past few days, we've been hearing a lot of casting updates on Superman: Legacy surrounding the actors who will play the other DC heroes that are going to show up in the film.

While the movie is still presumably a Superman story, some fans have been concerned about Gunn's intention on introducing other superheroes and wonder whether they will appear for the sake of set-up in another project.

Given that it is the first official DCU movie, there are a lot of stakes for James Gunn to make it all work as the rebooted franchise is debuting its first feature project and hopefully the movie will still be a Superman-led project as the title promised.

Now, the director has addressed the concerns and it looks like fans have nothing to worry about.

A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads regarding the concerns surrounding the multiple superheroes that will be introduced in Superman: Legacy in the midst of the casting reports.

The DC Studios co-chairman responded and assured that the film will not serve as a set-up for other projects and the other heroes' appearances are for the sake of the story. He iterated that Superman and Lois are still the main characters.

"I’ve never used one movie to set up another movie. The characters are there because they help to tell Superman’s story better, not so we can set up separate projects in the franchise. Superman and Lois are the very clear protagonists," he wrote.

In another fan question, Gunn also clarified that Superman: Legacy will be set in a world where superheroes already exist and they will explore both Clark Kent's superhero and regular life.

"We’re entering a world where superheroes exist and have existed for quite a while. They’re a part of one side of his world just like Lois and Jimmy are part of another," he explained.

Aside from David Corenswet's Superman, the film will also introduce heroes such as Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan).

There you go, this should assure fans that the film will still be focused on Superman despite the many heroes that will be present.

Given his track record in the past, at this point, it would be fair to give Gunn the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully, it is indeed going to work once we see the film ourselves and those characters won't feel very shoehorned.
