James Gunn Doesn't Want to Direct a Star Wars Movie

It seems like almost everybody wants to direct a Star Wars movie in Hollywood, which likely has to do with how expansive the universe is for storytelling. However, recent times have proven that Disney and LucasFilm are really picky when it comes to making these movies, with the company firing directors months after hiring them, sometimes even during production. It's why Solo: A Star Wars Story had so many production problems, despite its redeeming qualities.

So, even though it seems like a lot of people want to direct a Star Wars movie, reality has made that a pretty big burden. James Gunn, who is currently directing The Suicide Squad and is expected to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after, recently stated that he currently has no interest in directing a Star Wars film.

During a Q and A on his Instagram (covered by ScreenRant), Gunn revealed that Star Wars doesn't interest him as a filmmaker. Apparently, the franchise movies he is currently working on already fulfilling him greatly so it looks like Gunn will go back to making weird little indie movies after his Marvel and DC work.

We're a bit sad that James Gunn has no interest in Star Wars since he could have brought some of his creativity to the franchise. That being said, we're happy to see Gunn direct and write whatever he wants, which is always nice.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad will be coming out on August 6, 2021.
