James Gunn Discusses How MCU Adam Warlock is Different from the Comics

Despite the lack of surprises during last week's Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, director James Gunn — who already helmed three Guardians of the Galaxy films did not hold back in revealing major details about his final Marvel project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

During Marvel Studios' press line at San Diego Comic-Con (as reported by Screenrant), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn opens up about Will Poulter's upcoming debut as Adam Warlock. Although the director did not divulge much about the character, he discussed what makes his live-action version distinct from the source material.

"I think, like all of the Guardians, he has a very specific personality," he said. "When you have a character like Adam, who has been written by a bunch of different comic book writers, each one has their own take on Adam. This is our take on Adam, and I think he's a pretty spectacular character."

Will Poulter will be bringing to life one of Marvel Comics' strongest characters, Adam Warlock. After being teased in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, fans have been eager to witness what the live-action version of the hero would look like, especially after the role landed to Poulter.

Amazingly, it seems that Poulter has been extremely occupied in preparing for the role. According to him, he has been preparing mentally and physically to play Adam Warlock, but wouldn't recommend such rigid training to anyone. “It’s difficult talking about it because with Marvel it’s all secret squirrel, but the most important thing is that your mental and physical health has to be number one, and the aesthetic goals have to be secondary, otherwise you end up promoting something that is unhealthy and unrealistic if you don’t have the financial backing of a studio paying for your meals and training," Poulter told The Independent. "I’m in a very privileged position in that respect, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone do what I did to get ready for that job.”

Helmed by James Gunn, the final Guardians film will bring back Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit the big screens on May 5, 2023.
