It goes without saying that Chris Pratt has already cemented himself as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most valuable assets and there's a reason why the Guardians of the Galaxy lasted this long in the billion-dollar franchise.

At this rate, it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the Star-Lord character other than him. That's not to say though that the MCU's third Chris always embodied Peter Quill's spirit.

Believe it or not, he actually bombed his first screen test and according to Pratt himself, director James Gunn wasn't too pleased with what the actor initially brought to the dance.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the Super Mario Bros. Movie voice actor revealed that he committed a blunder during his audition that could have cost him the coveted MCU spot that even Shazam! actor Zachary Levi was eyeing.

Pratt recalled that Gunn actually stopped him in the middle of his screen test, bluntly criticized him and said: "I don't know what you're doing, but you're blowing it."

The DC Studios co-head would then offer Pratt some much-needed words of encouragement. "This is the moment right now. You just need to stop doing whatever you’re doing and just be real. Just be you." Ultimately, Pratt aced his audition, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, Pratt, along with his Guardians co-stars are set to bid the MCU farewell. While it still remains to be seen if the cosmic team will indeed cease to exit after the third GOTG film, (because let's face it, it's hard to buy into the things Gunn and company have been saying) I think they've done pretty good for themselves should the team actually go on their separate ways after the threequel.

Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits cinemas on May 5th.
