Nebula can easily be considered as one of the dark horses of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and over the years, we've seen the character transform from just a regular villain nobody seems to care about to one of the franchise's most compelling and relatable heroes. Of course, all credit goes to actress Karen Gillan who has played the role to perfection since 2014 and her performances in the MCU speak volumes of her range as an actress.

Unsurprisingly, Karen has a huge fan in director James Gunn and if you'd ask him, he's a firm believer that the Scottish actress deserves an Oscar award for each time she portrayed the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy character. Taking to Twitter, The Suicide Squad filmmaker confidently said that Gillan's MCU performance should've merited her more than one Academy Award trophy.

I don't care what anybody thinks but Nebula was the emotional core of the last two Avengers films and there's a reason why Marvel put her on that spot. Now that she finally had her closure with her father Thanos and presumably her sister Nebula, it'll be interesting to see where the character's creative direction will be taken. It would be safe to assume of course that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will continue to make her one of the franchise's central figures and honestly, I wouldn't mind that at all.

The MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
