DC fans were pretty surprised they found Nathan Fillion's name included in the cast list for James Gunn's very first DC movie, The Suicide Squad.
Sure, the Firefly star might have already provided his voice talent to various animated films and series for the DC universe over the years, but no one was really expecting to see the actor join Gunn's reboot sequel of David Ayer's Suicide Squad. For the past few months, fans have been trying to guess who Fillion might play in the film. Ever since set photos taken from The Suicide Squad started making the rounds online, fans started speculating that Fillion might be playing Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, the first rejected applicant of the Legion of Superheroes.
To the uninitiated, Arm-Fall-Off-Boy is a hero with the ability to detach his own limbs to use as blunt weapons. It might sound like a stupid power, but it's one that fans can perfectly see being in The Suicide Squad. Gunn has the propensity to bring obscure heroes to the spotlight – look at the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Taking to Instagram to address fans in a question and answer session (via Heroic Hollywood), Gunn was asked whether or not Fillion would be playing Arm-Fall-Off-Boy.
The filmmaker's blunt answer? "Nope."
The response might sound a little disappointing to fans who've been hoping to see the strange hero on the big screen, but we don't really think that Arm-Fall-Off-Boy would be of much use in The Suicide Squad.
The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.
