We already know that the Avatar sequels are currently in production and that should be a good thing because we just got a promising update from James Cameron. The filmmaker has just confirmed that Avatar 2 has completed filming and is ready for post-production. Moreover, work on the third Avatar film could begin soon.
Cameron recently took part in the 2020 Austrian World Summit environmental conference which was also attended by Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger (via The Independent). During the conversation, the director spoke out on how COVID-19 affected the movie and led to the lengthy delay.
"COVID hit us like it hit everybody… We lost about four and a half months of production. As a result of that, we've rolled around one more full year for a release in December of 2022," Cameron said. "That's been announced already."
Luckily, filming on the second movie is already done but that doesn't mean the cast and crew will be slowing down anytime soon.
"Now that doesn't mean I have an extra year to finish the film because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we'll just start working on finishing Avatar 3," Cameron said.
It's understandable why Cameron is eager to keep working on the other movies as soon as possible. After all, the post-production is the one that takes more time so there is little doubt that scheduling is essential. Hopefully, we'll be getting more awesome updates on the films in the future.
Avatar 2 is scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
