IVE Wonyoung took over the spotlight for the wrong reason.

Wonyoung made several headlines when she attended the Paris Fashion Week. She was linked to G-Dragon after the BIGBANG member shared a photo of the gifts he received from Miu Miu.

At that time, fans noticed Wonyoung's sticker on the photo and claimed that the rapper purposely put the word "lovely" on top of the K-pop idol's sticker.

Aside from dating rumors, Wonyoung also sparked controversy due to the hairpin she wore.

IVE Wonyoung Boasts Phoenix Hairpin at Paris Fashion Week

Vogue Korea shared a vlog on October 16 featuring the IVE member. In the video, she talks about her busy schedule in Paris and shows how she mixes and matches her outfits with her jewelry, including a hairpiece she wore during the FRED Paris event.

She says she wants to have up style hair as it perfectly goes with the hairpin.

“I wanted to show off the beauty of Korea, so I brought this binyeo all the way here from Korea,” she said.

The binyeo she wore, according to Korea JoongAng Daily, had the phoenix design which Korean queens and princesses commonly wore during the Joseon Dynasty.

However, a Chinese influencer called her out for her claims, and Chinese fans did the same.

IVE Wonyoung Accused of Stealing Chinese Culture

After the vlog was uploaded online, a Chinese influencer with nearly half a million followers criticized the idol and corrected her statement about the hairpin.

"Jang Won Young came on broadcast claiming that the phoenix hairpin is Korean. The phoenix and dragon have been symbols unique to the Chinese people. Korea did have the hairpins but they can't say the phoenix hairpin is Korean,” the influencer said.

Chinese fans agreed with the influencer and accused Wonyoung of stealing China’s traditional culture. They urged South Korea to apologize to China because of the idol’s statement.

As of press time, Wonyoung’s agency has not commented on the issue yet.
