IT Chapter Two Star James McAvoy Seriously Injured Himself While Fighting Pennywise

Most actors can get injured while working on an action sequence in their films. Unfortunately for James McAvoy, he had to fight Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise in It Chapter Two and didn't realize he was seriously injured until much later.

McAvoy had joked about the Chapter Two injury last year, explaining that he had only strained his thighs while fighting Pennywise. However, the His Dark Materials star has just revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that he continued to be in terrible pain after the scene was filmed (via Cinemablend). McAvoy admitted that he suffered from tendonitis six months after filming and his thighs remained sore throughout production.

But which scene caused the injuries in the first place? There is a possibility that it's one that fans have already seen in the Chapter Two SDCC trailer. In the teaser, McAvoy's Bill Denbrough goes after a little boy who enters a carnival funhouse alone. Although he manages to catch up with the child, they are still separated by glass and Pennywise is on the other side of the glass as well.

We don't know whether Pennywise manages to break through the glass himself but Bill certainly puts his back into getting through before the clown does. The scene shows McAvoy trying to kick the glass in and it's possible that all those high kicks had lead to the injuries to his thighs and tendons.

It Chapter Two is scheduled for release on September 6.
