Isle Of The Dead, a new The Walking Dead spinoff starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, has been greenlit by AMC Networks. The series will follow Negan and Maggie as they travel to a post-apocalyptic New York City.

The Walking Dead's popularity has led to the creation of a broader franchise, which includes two spin-off shows, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, as well as plans for two additional spinoffs and a trilogy of films focusing on Andrew Lincoln's Rick following his apparent death. AMC now appears to be expanding its Walking Dead universe even more.

AMC Greenlights Isle Of The Dead

Following the release of the most recent Season 10 episode, AMC has revealed a new The Walking Dead spin-off TV show starring Maggie and Negan. The project, titled Isle of the Dead, is created by franchise veteran Eli Jorné and will follow the two characters as they travel to zombie-infested Manhattan and New York City.

“I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues. It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren,” Cohan said in a statement announcing The Walking Dead spinoff.

“The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better. Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe.”

What to Expect in the Isle Of The Dead

The revelation of Maggie and Negan's The Walking Dead spin-off comes as the two are forced to meet each other in Season 11 of the hit series, with the former's mission to regain her old village Meridian from the Reapers.

Their journey has put them in danger not only from walkers and Reapers, but also from one other, as Negan suspects Maggie of plotting to kill him and chooses to abandon her in a subway tunnel amidst a swarm of walkers. Despite their disagreements following Negan's killing of Glenn in Season 7, the two have now made a decent team after reconnecting.

Isle Of The Dead Release Date

The announcement of the Isle Of The Dead spin-off show does not specify where it takes place in the mothership series' narrative, prompting questions about how it will tie into the rest of the hit drama's 11th and final season. Only time will tell, as The Walking Dead Season 11 airs on AMC on Sundays, while Isle of the Dead is expected to debut in 2023.
