What Is the Wind Breaker Manga Series About?
The Wind Breaker manga series belongs to the adventure, martial arts, and yanki genres.
It follows Haruka Sakura, a first-year high schooler who moved towns to enter Bofurin High, a school renowned for its delinquent students.
Due to Haruka’s unique appearance, having othello-like hair and different colored eyes, many people think he’s disgusting.
They always discriminate against Haruka, accusing him of starting fights with other students, stealing wallets, and causing public disturbances, even though he has good intentions.
He’s sick of everyone’s judgment, so he decides to move town and start anew. But this time, he wants to be the top dog of Bofurin High and fight the strongest guy there is.
Little did Haruka know, Bofurin High has changed and so have its enrolled delinquents.
The delinquents of Bofurin High are now being treated as heroes, youngsters who have the mutual creed of protecting the town, be it people or objects.
As the plot unfolds, Haruka finds himself helping the town, protecting his allies, and fighting for Bofurin’s respected name!
Is the Wind Breaker Manga Over or Ongoing? How Many Chapters Are There?
Yes, the Wind Breaker manga is still ongoing, and there’s no sign that it will end anytime soon.
Since January 13, 2021, the Wind Breaker manga has released 16 tankobon volumes in Japanese and 14 digital volumes in English.
The first volume was released on May 7, 2021, with Haruka Sakura on the cover.
So far, the Wind Breaker manga has over 100 chapters, and the anime adaptation by CloverWorks is only at the tip of the iceberg.
Fortunately, the Wind Breaker manga has received a good reception, ranking 20th at the 2021 Next Manga Award in the web manga category and ranking ninth in AnimeJapan’s 2022 list of “Manga We Want To See Animated” poll.
As of March 2022, the Wind Breaker manga has sold over 1.22 million copies between print and digital versions. With the anime’s release, we’re expecting that these numbers will continue to rise.
