Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is the first anime and Japanese film to get more than $400 million worldwide box office proceeds. The movie also got a lot of rewards and broke tons of box office records. With the huge popularity of the movie, a lot of fans (who have not read the manga) have been curious if the movie is canon or not.
Before we answer that, it is important to note that the word "canon" in anime means it is something that happened in the story. It shouldn't be something that was made by a fan or just a "what if" moment.
Is Mugen Train Canon? Demon Slayer Movie Canon Status Explained
The answer is yes. The movie is called the Mugen Train Arc or the seventh arc of Kimetsu no Yaiba. It covered chapters 54 to 69 of the whole series.
Just like what happened in the manga, the movie showed that Enmu was assigned to kill Tanjiro and if he succeeds, he will become an upper rank. What Enmu did not expect is that Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu took the Infinity Train to work on a mission with the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku where Enmu exactly is.
Upon meeting with Rengoku, Tanjiro tried to ask the hashira if he knows about the Hinokami Kagura but to Tanjiro's dismay, Rengoku doesn't seem to know it. The hashira changed the subject and explained to them that his mission is to find the demon who is responsible for multiple disappearances on the train.
While discussing with them, Rengoku senses a demon and kills it easily, making the three demon slayers amazed. What they didn't know is that they were already asleep thanks to Enmu's dream manipulation ability. He then asks five civilians to help him eliminate the demon slayers in return for giving these civilians a chance to get good dreams.
What will happen to them? How will Tanjiro and the rest of the team defeat Enmu? We can't spoil the details so we recommend fans watch the movie instead. When will season 2 of Demon Slayer be released? Find out here.
