Is John Wick Dead in Chapter 4? Producer Breaks Silence on Shocking Ending

Keanu Reeves is back in action in theaters, John Wick: Chapter 4, where he is set to face off and take his revenge against the High Table in Paris at the Arc de Triomphe. Considering how the action sequences never failed to impress its audiences and leave them in awe at the ending, John Wick: Chapter 4 producer Erica Lee hopes for a John Wick 5.

Did John Wick die in Chapter 4? The film may have ended while showing no dead body of the titular retired assassin. The last we have seen from Reeves' character was bleeding on the steps of Sacré-Cœur in Paris. Now, despite this evident death, Lee hopes this isn't the case.

“I hope not.” Lee said in a recent interview with Screen Rant, “I have heard Keanu [Reeves] say that this is the death of John Wick the character, but also, what does that mean? Is that the alias of John Wick? Is that the assassin John Wick? I think the answer is we don't know yet.”

See, previously, Reeves himself opened up on the reason behind what made John Wick: Chapter 4 come to fruition. John Wick 3 was received well in theaters, and stemming from that success led Reeves and director Chad Stahelski to “question the Why” behind its triumphant release.

“We had the opportunity [to do another film] because the audience [response to] Chapter Three, and we were like, ‘What was the Why?’” Reeves said, “And when Chad and I [were] talking, the Why? was the death — and it was John Wick’s death. For him to get his peace or freedom in a way… that was the reason to make the movie. It can’t just be, ‘Let’s do another one’. It was really about death or a way of dying.”

Now, while a John Wick 5 has yet to come to the table, Reeves’ response was interesting, especially the bit about for Wick to get his “freedom, in a way”. It is possible (and often, filmmakers do this) for the retired assassin to soon return to the theaters, should they find a loophole around the ending of John Wick 4.
