Is HBO Max Working on a Batman: The Animated Series Sequel?

Batman: The Animated Series is quite possibly the quintessential animated series of the 1990s and it isn't too hard to understand how fans are still talking about the iconic show over 20 years after its final episode. The show pretty much kickstarted the entire DC Animated Universe, paving the way for shows like Superman: The AnimatedSeries and Justice League.



Now, close to 30 years after its debut, rumors are swirling online that the BTAS saga will be revisited and given new life. During Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin's Fatman Beyond live chat on YouTube, they claim that they've heard the news about a supposed sequel which will be released on HBO Max.

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet so take everything with a grain of salt. But because HBO Max is doing their best to provide DC fans with quality content, the streaming service producing a BTAS sequel isn't exactly out of the question. As someone who grew up with the show and adored it as a kid, I'm totally giddy about the possibility but I do have my reservations should they end up pulling the trigger.

If they were to continue the BTAS saga, I really hope they'll remain faithful to how the entire series was animated back in the '90s. As much as possible, we need to maintain the show's authenticity and the animation style is made famous. Of course, casting Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker is already a no brainer.
