The Goosebumps Disney+ series is a reboot. The Goosebumps books were first brought to life on-screen in 1995.

The 1995 adaptation was an anthology series, with each episode based on a different Goosebumps book. It aired from 1995 to 1998 and consisted of four seasons and 74 episodes.

Goosebumps then received two film adaptations: 2015’s Goosebumps and its 2019 standalone sequel, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.

The Goosebumps 2023 reboot was developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller. Unlike the adaptation from the 90s, the 2023 reboot is not an anthology series.

Talking about the reboot, Rob Letterman, who was also the director of the 2015 Goosebumps film, said (via Boston Herald):

“Our approach was we wanted the show to appeal to everyone. We wanted to have adults as well as young teens. We wanted to appeal to deep ‘Goosebumps’ fans from the ’90s as well as people uninitiated with ‘Goosebumps.’
Ultimately, the show is about teenagers going through very relatable, very universal, teenage things. And without giving anything away, their parents are also going through some things.”

The Goosebumps Disney+ series has a total of 10 episodes. The first five episodes will be released on October 13, 2023. New episodes will then be released every Friday until the season finale on November 17, 2023.
