Is Disney Going to Rehire James Gunn? Unusual Silence Suggests Maybe

The Guardians of the Galaxy cast have released a joint statement and currently stand with James Gunn, who was fired from the third film after alt-right followers unearthed decade-old tweets he made about rape and pedophilia, amongst other things. He apologized for these and took responsibility for his actions and many celebrities have stood by him since, including the aforementioned GOTG cast.

Considering Disney and Marvel's radio-silence regarding the matter, Variety reports that this could lead to Gunn's rehiring. That's a huge maybe though and it's all just speculation but when you consider how a new director is needed to start filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in early 2019, not to mention rewrite Gunn's script, anything is possible.

Apparently, the company is waiting for Walt Disney chairman Bob Iger to finish his vacation so that they can make a decision. It seems like the company isn't in a huge rush to look for a new director, especially with Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man: Far From Home confirmed for 2019 releases.

It seems like this saga regarding James Gunn won't go away quietly, especially with the full Guardians cast behind him, not to mention all the actors and actresses leaving Twitter to stand by him. While the tweets in question were dumb and stupid, he has clearly changed as a person and the immediate firing felt PR-focused more than anything else.
