DanMachi Season 5 Episode 9 has been delayed, with its release rescheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024. The announcement, shared on the anime's official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, November 25, 2024, surprised many fans.
The current season of DanMachi, also known as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, is progressing through the Goddess of Fertility Arc. If you're wondering why the episode has been postponed, we’ve got the details for you.
Why is DanMachi Season 5 Episode 9 Delayed?
According to J.C. Staff, the studio behind DanMachi, the episode was delayed due to production issues, though the exact reason was not disclosed in their post.
To compensate, the staff announced that the Season 3 OVA episode, "Is It Wrong to Try to Find a Hot Spring in Orario? Bath God Forever," will air in place of Episode 9.
This marks the first time DanMachi has faced a delay since its debut in 2015. While delays are rare for the series, light novel readers speculate the postponement could be tied to a significant and challenging event in the story that's about to unfold. Animating such a moment, especially as Bell regains his footing after confirming his memories with the Hestia Familia are real, might require extra care to do it justice.
Unsurprisingly, many fans expressed disappointment over the delay. However, others believe the extra time is worth it if it ensures a well-crafted episode that does justice to the light novel's exceptional storytelling.
What is DanMachi Season 5 All About?
Bell Cranel has come a long way in the series, overcoming life-threatening challenges in the dungeon. Despite being in the Hestia Familia for less than a year, his journey has helped him grow stronger and become the person we know today.
Bell’s kind heart and determination have made him a favorite of many characters, including his Goddess, Hestia, Ryu, and even the Goddess of Love, Freya.
Freya's obsession and possessiveness over Bell have been evident in previous seasons. But now, in the Goddess of Fertility Arc, she begins to act on her emotions more directly as we learn that she has secretly been controlling an alter-ego, Syr. This is revealed during the Goddess Festival when Syr invites Bell on a date and confesses her feelings for him.
However, Bell’s heart belongs to just one person, Ais Wallenstein. Freya, unable to handle the rejection, uses her charm to make everyone in Orario believe that Bell is actually a member of Freya Familia, causing him to question whether his memories with the Hestia Familia and the others are real or mere fabrications.
By Episode 8, the truth starts to surface as Bell goes to see Ais and realizes their shared memories are indeed real. Things begin to move forward again.
Studio J.C. Staff has done a fantastic job adapting the series, and many fans think they just need a bit more time to perfect Episode 9.
