Chief Wallace Boden (played by Eamonn Walker) has been shortlisted to become the Deputy Fire Commissioner in Chicago Fire season 12.

While the longtime leader of Firehouse 51 considers this an honor for the years of service he worked hard for, this potentially means 51 losing their leader.

Chicago Fire has witnessed several of veteran actors exit the show, and Chief Boden's case is no different.

In Chicago Fire season 12 episode 9 titled Something About Her, Chief Boden took a leave of absence to help out his stepson James, who was struggling to make ends meet as his mother was sent to prison.

Boden tried his best to accommodate James by offering him an administrative job at Firehouse 51, especially since the tenants renting James' house out in Michigan refused to pay their rent.

If the mortgage doesn't get paid, James and his mother's house are screwed. Thus, the reason why Chief Boden had to leave. But this leaves fans questioning whether he'll come back again on the show.

It remains unclear whether this means the actor Eamonn Walker is leaving the show, but it does seem to imply he is. What is also uncertain is how long his character, Chief Boden, will be gone from Firehouse 51.

Considering that Chief Boden's stepson is three months behind on the mortgage and he's got a promotion waiting at the Chicago Fire Department, he's in a tough space to keep up with the rest of his colleagues for the rest of the season.
