Is Billy Dee Williams Returning for Star Wars Episode IX?

The Star Wars sequel trilogy has given us some fantastic returns of Legacy characters like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker; but with the death of Carrie Fisher, the role of Legacy character for Episode IX has been left empty. The good news is, it looks like they found someone from the original trilogy to come back for the film.

According to Fantha Tracks, Billy Dee Williams has signed on to reprise the role of Lando Calrissian for Star Wars Episode IX. Of course, we should still take this as a rumor, but the same source did confirm what the working title for Episode IX was. They say we should be expecting an official announcement as J.J. Abrams' production begins.

It has been said that appearances for Lando had been planned earlier, but an agreement with Williams couldn't be met. At least now, it looks like they finally got him to play along. Popularity for Lando has gotten rejuvenated thanks to Donald Glover and his portrayal of him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

We don't know how exactly Lando would appear in the film, but I bet he would make his appearance during a funeral scene for Leia. With the Resistance in dire need, it would make sense that the old Rebellion general would want to lend a hand.

Star Wars Episode IX is set to come out Dec. 20, 2019.
