What Is the Bartender Manga About?

As the title suggests, the Bartender manga revolves around Ryu Sasakura, a highly accomplished bartender who returned to Japan to serve exquisite drinks to customers from all walks of life.

Despite his easygoing demeanor, Sasakura is a skilled bartender at such a young age.

He not only worked as a lead bartender in a five-star hotel on the outskirts of Paris, but he also won the top prize at an international cocktail competition in Europe.

After returning to Japan, Sasakura went back to work as a bartender at Lapin (Eden Hall in the anime) in Ginza. The taste of his drinks has been called the God’s Glass and is known to contain delicate flavors.

Unlike other bartenders, Sasakura can identify customers' preferences and surprise them with fresh and exciting drinks.

He pays attention to every little detail about his customers, such as their loose sleeve button or the way their watch is worn to match the cocktails he serves them.

In the new Bartender: Glass of God anime, Miwa Kurushima aims to recruit Sasakura at Hotel Cardinal’s authentic counter-type bar.

The Bartender manga has ended, and there is no prospect of a sequel soon. In addition, there is currently no word on what other content fans may expect, except new episodes of the Bartender: Glass of God anime.

The drama and slice-of-life manga was first serialized in Shueisha's Super Jump magazine from 2004 until 2011.

Following the cancellation of Super Jump, it was serialized in Grand Jump magazine from November to December 2011.

The Bartender manga has been published in 21 volumes, beginning with volume 1, Yasashi Tomariki, on December 3, 2004, and ending with book 21, Sayonara no Oshie, on February 17, 2012.

It was then licensed to Haksan Publishing in South Korea and Sharp Point Press in Taiwan.

Unfortunately, the manga was not licensed in North America, so don't expect to see an official English version of the series.

The manga series also inspired three spinoffs: Bartender a Paris, Bartender a Tokyo, and Bartender 6tsp. These spinoffs are also over, having released six, eight, and four manga volumes, respectively.
