The first Avengers: Endgame trailer opens with a truly depressing image. The first thing we see is Iron Man's damaged helmet before Tony Stark begins recording a message for Pepper Potts. However, some fans are seeing something else in the helmet.
Avengers isn't the first franchise to highlight a battered helmet. The new Star Wars trilogy has been showing the remains of Dark Vader's helmet in The Force Awakens as well as Kylo Ren's smashed headpiece in The Last Jedi. So it's no surprise that fans are noticing the resemblance.
All kidding aside, there appears to be some symbolism to why the Endgame trailer chose to feature Iron Man's helmet first. It somehow confirms the heroes' utter defeat after the events in Infinity War and Tony's complete loss of hope. Will the helmet be the only way to connect to Tony in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Could it be the one thing that will save him next year?
Interestingly, the helmet's appearance has also sparked intense speculations. People have pointed out that the damage on the headpiece is on the wrong side. This could mean Tony had managed to fix it then had to fight a new opponent that once again broke the helmet. However, it's still possible that that's the same helmet all along. Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough.
The fourth Avengers film was initially set for release in May. However, the release of the Endgame trailer and its poster confirmed that Marvel Studios is moving the sequel up a full week earlier. This means we'll be finding out about Tony's fate by April.
Avengers: Endgame is scheduled for release on April 26, 2019.
