There's a good reason why people love Tony Stark. The Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero is played by Robert Downey Jr., who somehow embraced the role and gave Tony a unique sense of humor. Interestingly, this is all in full display in the Iron Man 2 alternate opening scene.
In Iron Man 2, we were first introduced to Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), who had just lost his father and find out that Tony is Iron Man. Vanko then starts creating his own arc reactor. Six months later, we see Iron Man making a dramatic entrance to announce that Stark Expo has been reinstituted.
We probably wouldn't change anything about the Iron Man 2 opening sequence. However, the alternate scene before Tony makes his entrance is remarkably different since it actually features Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).
In the alternate sequence, we find Tony having a meltdown with his head in the toilet. He tells Pepper that he doesn't want to go through with his entrance but she insists that he has to go. The two then end up yelling at each and at one point, Tony tells the pilot to abort the mission. However, his mood changes once Pepper informs him that they are already at the drop point.
Before jumping off the plane, Tony asks Pepper for a kiss. Considering that he had just been throwing up in the toilet, she kisses his helmet instead and tosses it off the plane. As he jumps, he tells her, "You complete me."
It's a hilarious look at how quickly Tony can turn on the charm when he's ready to be Iron Man. However, it's possible that the scene was swapped out since it might make Tony look weak and unprepared. Either way, we're happy to have seen this awesome sequence.
Iron Man returns in Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters on April 26.
